A four-year-old support organization for technology executives and entrepreneurs in Sarasota and Bradenton is getting a new name and a new partner.

The group formerly known as 82 Degrees Tech, named for the longitudinal line that runs through Manatee and Sarasota counties, is changing its name to the Suncoast Technology Forum. It also announced that it will be aligning with the Tampa Bay Technology Forum.

A Suncoast official says the arrangement with its bigger tech neighbor to the north isn't a merger or an acquisition. Suncoast will still conduct activities for its local members, including networking breakfasts, educational seminars and social events.

The forum was founded in 2005 by local entrepreneurs and executives, in conjunction with representatives from the Economic Development Corp. of Sarasota County and the Manatee County Economic Development Council.
