The tech community in Tampa is on a roll.

The latest proof: More than 150 companies and individuals will vie for awards in eight categories at the upcoming Tampa Bay Tech Awards. That speaks to the strength, diversity and fast growth of the tech industry in Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater, say area technology business leaders.

“Tampa Bay, collectively, is making incredibly significant strides in technology,” says Daniel James Scott, executive director of the Tampa Bay Technology Forum. “It is important to reflect on our successes and reward those companies, people and programs that make our region shine.”

Scott says Tampa Bay has become Florida's leading tech hub in a number of different ways, ranging from the amount of Inc. 5000 companies in the area to the number of women employed in the tech industry.

The region's tech firms also receive ample support from investors. “Tampa Bay is Florida's most venture-backed tech hub,” says Scott. “TBTF members alone have raised over a quarter of a billion [dollars] in equity capital.”

Some of the nominees for the 2017 awards include well-known companies, such as Fintech, Valpak and Tech Data. Others are smaller, emerging names like Sourcetoad and Harness.

The 14th annual Tampa Bay Tech Awards ceremony is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at the Mahaffey Theater in downtown St. Petersburg. For more information or to buy tickets go to 2017techawards.eventbrite.com.
