PLANS, DESCRIPTION: Tampa Family Health Centers Inc. purchased a 0.46-acre vacant lot across Bird Street from the Tampa Greyhound Track for $1.68 million.


The health care non-profit plans to develop a 15,000-square-foot health clinic on the site. The new clinic building will feature medical and dental facilities and a pharmacy. It is scheduled for completion in September, according to Stephanie Theaker, chief operations officer.


Tampa Family Health Centers currently operates eight health care delivery sites and one mobile medical van. It is scheduled to open a new clinic in Westshore in April.


The non-profit provides affordable health care services to the uninsured or underinsured Hillsborough County residents. In 2006, it handled 67,000 patient visits for 21,000 residents.
