Sunnyridge Farms buys Plant City warehouse

PLANS, DESCRIPTION: Winter Haven-based Sunnyridge Farms purchased a 51,000-square-foot warehouse building with refrigerated storage on Jim Johnson Road north of Roberts Ranch Road for $2.9 million.
The building will be used as the company's primary distribution facility, housing Florida strawberries and blackberries from nearby farms and imported berries from Mexico, Argentina and Chili. The company — a berry grower, marketer, packer and shipper — already has a distribution facility in its current corporate headquarters, which it will continue to use.
“Based on the growth we have been experiencing, we felt it was time to acquire a larger facility,” says Heather Forshee, PR and communications coordinate for Sunnyridge Farms. “The location is perfect. It's within 30 miles of 50% of the Florida blueberry production and 80% of the Florida Strawberry production.”
The facility is also near major highway transportation and has 15 truck docks, compared to just two in its Winter Haven facility. The building only required minor improvements, including the installation of new blast chillers. The new facility is expected to be in operation by the end of the month.
