If you look at a map of Southwest Florida, the next north-south corridor east of Interstate 75 is State Road 29.
The two-lane road cuts through hamlets you may never have heard of, such as Felda and Jerome. But it also slices through the agricultural town of Immokalee, home to Ave Maria University and the Seminole Casino.
In a blog on the Henderson Franklin law firm website, Fort Myers attorney Carlos Kelley says the Florida Department of Transportation is considering widening State Road 29 from Oil Well Road in Collier County to State Road 82.
Widening is just one of several alternatives the state is considering. In two of the scenarios, state officials are considering building bypass roads around Immokalee to prevent traffic congestion through that small town.
With growth moving eastward, consider taking a Sunday drive down State Road 29 for opportunities. Or check out the progress of the project from your desk at www.sr29collier.com.
