ST. PETERSBURG — The board of directors for the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) has approved a 10-year, more than $525 million media agreement with international digital media company Perform. The association describes the deal as the largest live media rights and production venture in its history and in women's sports.

The agreement includes every WTA event across standard live coverage, digital and coverage not offered by a network operator, known in the industry as over-the-top offerings. The WTA says the partnership will make it easier for fans to follow their favorite players throughout the year.

“This is a game-changing and historic moment for our fans and for women's sport,” Stacey Allaster, WTA chairman and CEO, says in a press release. “Our new broadcast strategy to produce all 2,000 main draw singles matches in partnership with Perform will deliver exponential global exposure for our players, tournaments and partners.”

The deal calls for WTA and Perform to work together in a joint venture called WTA Media that will produce all main draw singles matches and the semifinals and finals of all doubles matches in 2017. The new entity will also create additional news content along with magazine shows and off-court content.

Founded by Billie Jean King in 1973, the WTA organizes more than 2,500 players worldwide for 54 events and four Grand Slams in 33 countries.
