The St. Pete Pier is among the six developments from around the world that have won the 2022 Urban Land Institute Global Awards for Excellence.
The awards program, according to a news release, was established in 1979 to recognize truly superior development efforts in the private, public and nonprofit sectors. Winning projects represent the highest standards of achievement in the land use profession.
In 2022, the release states, 152 projects were nominated for the Global Awards for Excellence. ULI narrowed that group down to 26 finalists.
Completed in summer 2020, the St. Pete Pier is one of just two developments in North America to win the ULI award. The other is Essex Crossing in New York City.
Entries are evaluated by a jury of nine ULI members who represent a range of real estate and land use expertise, including development, finance, planning, urban design, architecture and landscape architecture.
“ULI honored finalists who displayed an exemplary commitment to best practices and to building more inclusive cities with exceptional and contextual design,” states juror Sophie Henley-Price, principal and managing director of Studios Architecture in Paris, in the release. “The winners exhibited a unique level of excellence both at a regional and global scale, along with a dedication to promoting community engagement and innovation within their respective projects. By serving as replicable models for how developers across a diverse set of circumstances can successfully transform their communities for the better, these projects go above and beyond in furthering ULI’s mission worldwide.”
The other winners are Anken Alley in Shanghai, China; MÉCA in Bordeaux, France; Norblin Factory in Warsaw, Poland; and Enabling Village in Singapore.
The St. Pete Pier was developed by the City of St. Petersburg and designed by Rogers Partners + Urban Designers; ASD | SKY; Ken Smith Workshop; W Architecture and Landscape Architecture; and Wannemacher Jensen Architects.
