TAMPA -- Spirit Airlines will begin offering nonstop service between Tampa International Airport and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport on May 4.

Tampa is one of seven U.S. cities to gain a connection to Dallas through Spirit's latest expansion. Other destinations being added to Spirit's service schedule include Orlando, Atlanta, and Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Currently, American Airlines is the only service out of TIA that provides nonstop flights to DFW, according to Kayak.

Spirit's added service announcement comes less than two weeks after Southwest Airlines announced it would be reducing service to and from TIA. The airline will eliminate 12 flights to and from Tampa in August.
