TAMPA — Daily, nonstop service from Tampa to San Juan, Puerto Rico, is coming in February via Spirit Airlines.

The Miramar-based discount carrier will begin offering the expanded route, from Tampa International Airport to Luis Muñoz Marin International Airport, Feb. 14, according to a press release. Baltimore-Washington International Airport will also offer daily nonstop service to the island’s capital city.

“We are so proud to have been serving Puerto Rico since 2001, and we are thrilled to be expanding here again,” states Mark Kopczak, Spirit Airlines’ vice president of network planning, in the release. “We believe these new routes from Tampa and Baltimore will provide greater convenience to our guests with more low fare, nonstop flights.”

Spirit has been on a growth surge of late, also adding routes from Jacksonville to Baltimore/Washington, Detroit, Chicago and Fort Lauderdale. In October, the airline — which generated $2.65 billion in revenue in 2017, up from $2.32 billion in 2016 — launched daily nonstop service linking Orlando with Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.
