FORT MYERS — Sanibel Captiva Community Bank has added a mobile wallet service, offering Apple, Samsung and Google Pay for its customers.

Both consumer and business customers can enroll their debit cards in their mobile devices’ wallet settings, according to a statement.

Designed using proven security standards set by the payments industry, mobile wallets use “tokens” to prevent customers’ card numbers being shared with merchants. Card numbers are not stored on the device or on any servers. Using pass codes, touch and face ID during each transaction provides added user authentication for additional security, the release adds.

“For customers concerned about their card numbers or personal information being compromised by merchant database hacks or card skimming, the introduction of mobile wallets is a major step forward,” says Jonathan Ruiz, Sanibel Captiva Community Bank senior vice president and director of information technology, in a statement. “It’s not just a new trend, it’s a more secure payment method.”

Ranked by S&P Global Market Intelligence as a top 25 bests-performing community bank from among 4,500 banks with assets of less than $1 billion, Sanibel Captiva Community Bank has nearly $450 million in assets.
