Ringling College grads hit it big for Oscars

SARASOTA — Ringling College of Art and Design alumni had a banner showing at the Academy Awards this year, including a win for Best Short Film, Animated.

Patrick Osborne, who graduated from the Sarasota-based college in 2003, directed the winner for best animated short, Disney's Feast. Osborne, a computer animation major, has worked for Disney since 2008. Films he's worked on include Bolt, Wreck-It Ralph, Tangled and Paperman, which won the 2012 Oscar for best animated short.

In addition to Osborne's victory, a team of 20 Ringling alumni was part of the animation team behind Big Hero 6, which won the Oscar for Best Animation Feature Film. Ringling alum Jason Figliozzi, class of 2008, oversaw a team of about 80 animators for the hit movie.
