SARASOTA — President and CEO of Sarasota Manatee Airport Authority Fredrick J. Piccolo was named chairman of the Airports Council International (ACI) World Governing Board at its 23rd Annual General Assembly, according to a news release.

Piccolo is the vice chairman of the ACI World Governing Board and was nominated for the position alongside Chief Executive of London City Airport Declan Collier. Collier was elected vice chairman; both will begin their two-year terms in January 2014.

“Today, we welcome two very qualified airport leaders whose industry expertise and knowledge will help further guide and steer ACI to provide its members with the tools, services and strategies to continue achieving operational excellence,” ACI World Director General Angela Gittens says in the release.

Piccolo started his career with SRQ in 1995. He previously worked in the operations department at Tampa International Airport and was assistant airport director at St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport, according to Tampa Bay Partnership.

Established in 1991, ACI is the only global trade representative of the world's airports. ACI represents airport's interests with governments and international organizations, develops standards, policies and best practices for airports by providing information and training opportunities, according to the release.
