A multibillion-dollar corporation's decision to relocate and consolidate some of its business operations could bring 200 new jobs to Florida's Gulf Coast. Oshkosh Corp. will move two segments of its business — Medtec Ambulences and Oshkosh Specialty Vehicles —from the Midwest to Florida.

Medtec will move its manufacturing operations from Goshen, Ind., and White Pigeon, Mich., to Bradenton, and will consolidate with Pierce Manufacturing Inc., another Oshkosh company. The move will add between 100 and 150 employees to Pierce's payroll.

OSV will move from Harvey and Calumet City, Ill., to Clearwater, where the business will merge with Frontline Communications, another Oshkosh interest. Frontline's staff will grow by 50 employees as a result.

State and local officials offered Oshkosh $1.44 million in performance-based incentives to attract the firm's additional business. The state of Florida will provide $1.07 million; Manatee County will contribute $333,732; and Pinellas County will add $40,000 in incentives.

In addition to new jobs, the move could coax Oshkosh into investing in upgraded facilities. “We plan to invest $5 million in capital improvements to expand our Florida facilities,” said Oshkosh executive vice president Jim Johnson in a statement.

Based in Oshkosh, Wis., Oshkosh Corp. manufactures and markets specialty vehicles, along with their accessories. The publicly traded company (symbol: OSK) earned $9.8 billion in 2010 revenues.
