TAMPA -- Dr. Jeffrey Hillman, founder of Tampa-based Oragenics and the company's current chief scientific officer, will retire from his current position at the end of October.
Hillman will also step down from his position as a director at Oragenics, but will make himself available to the company as a consultant, a release says.
“I believe Oragenics has tremendous potential with its currently marketed ProBiora3 oral probiotic products, its SMaRT Replacement Therapy technology and a pipeline of novel antibiotic candidates,” Hillman says of the company he is leaving. “I have full confidence in the Company's leadership and believe that Oragenics' brightest days are ahead.”
After founding Oragenics in 1996, Hillman served continuously as the company's chief scientific officer, and as a member of its board. He also served as board chairman from 1996 to December 2004.
Oragenics continues to spend heavily on research and development, despite a lack of revenue. The company has spent more than $7 million on research over the past four years, financial records show, against slightly more than $2 million in revenue.
