× LandMark Bank promoted Mario Pezzella to first vice president and branch administrator for the Sarasota-based bank. Pezzella previously worked as vice president and commercial lender for LandMark.

× Northern Trust Bank of Sarasota promoted Helen Nugent to senior vice president and director of the wealth strategies group. Nugent will continue her work as an investment solutions adviser.

× AmSouth Bank hired Marcy Gilroy as private banking manager for Sarasota and Manatee counties. Gilroy previously worked as a registered principal for Raymond James Financial Services.

Homebuilders

× John Neal, father of Pat Neal, left his technology position in Midlothian, Va., and is now working with Neal Communities in Bradenton. John Neal serves as head of geographic information and previously worked for C&F Mortgage.

× John Cannon Homes Inc. hired Rita Ferrell as bay area division manager. Prior to joining John Cannon Homes, Ferrell worked with Arthur Rutenberg Homes.

Investment

× Mel Srybnik, chief operating officer of Financial Psychology Corp., passed the Series 65 examination for registered investment adviser. Srybnik has worked in the family-owned businesses for his entire career.

× Marketing By Design hired Michael Brown as designer. Brown previously worked with such clients as Albritton Fruit, Lux Art and Alco Industries.

× The Executive Committee announced the appointment of Larry Face as group chairman. Face joins Jarry Venable as area TEC chairs.

× The University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee announced the appointments of Susan Freeman as director of USF Sarasota-Manatee in the south county program, and assistant professor Ross Alander as the south county program assistant director for the College of Business courses at Manatee Community College, Venice.

× The Manatee Community College District Board of Trustees re-elected Francis "Rip" DuPont as chairman and Stephen Boone as vice-chair of the board at an August meeting.

× The Sarasota County Commission named Stephen DeMarsh interim county attorney for Sarasota County. DeMarsh was the deputy county attorney.

Technology

× Kristine Holtz and Nathan Bailey of SouthTech Solutions were awarded "Excellence in Customer Service 2004" by Intuit Inc.

Financial

× Nancy Vafeas, CFP, has joined Miles & Thirion CPA PA in Sarasota as a certified financial planner. Vafeas was most recently vice president and private banking relationship manger with SunTrust for more than nine years.
