TAMPA —Standard Pacific Homes has acquired 675 acres in the Wiregrass area of New Tampa and plans to build 1,180 homes, according to a release from the Irvine, Calif.-based builder.

Standard Pacific bought the Pasco County land from Sierra Properties. It is located less than two miles from The Shops at Wiregrass, an affluent shopping mall with 800,000 square feet of retail, restaurant and entertainment space.

The builder is targeting move-up buyers for the master-planned community, says David Pelletz, Southeast regional president for Standard Pacific Homes, in the release. "The top-caliber quality of the community will serve as a flagship for future master-planned communities being created by Standard Pacific Homes in the Florida market."

The acreage is one of the few remaining parcels of land in the Wiregrass area, says Pelletz, and is among the most desirable property in Pasco County. The new homes will range in size from 1,800 to 5,000 square feet, and will have upscale designs such as Spanish and European cottage exteriors. Amenities include pools, tennis courts and a walking trail.

Starting home prices were not disclosed. A grand opening is planned for early 2014, says Pelletz.
