FORT MYERS — As construction continues toward its August 2020 opening, the 12-story, 243-room riverfront Luminary Hotel in downtown Fort Myers now has a general manager.  Luminary Hotel & Co. has hired Bob Megazzini to oversee the hiring of new staff, day-to-day operations and guest and employee satisfaction at the hotel and the remodeled Harborside Event Center and the planned amphitheater in Centennial Park, according to a statement.

Megazzini has more than 30 years of experience at several Marriott hotels nationwide.

“With his hospitality background and flair for outstanding service, Bob is the perfect person to assemble and lead our team as we look ahead to the opening of Luminary Hotel next year,” says Tampa-based Mainsail Lodging & Development President Joe Collier in the statement. “We’re excited to open this hotel with a general manager whose personality and passion seamlessly align with our Mainsail standards and core values.”

Megazzini’s career incorporates nearly every aspect of hospitality. He began in the kitchen and worked his way up to executive chef at several Marriott hotels. He transitioned to food and beverage director and later to director of hotel operations. For the past three years, he was the area general manager of the JW Marriott Denver and Courtyard Denver Downtown.

Luminary Hotel & Co. will be home to the signature Silver King Ocean Brasserie, the Beacon Social Drinkery rooftop lounge, The Workshop culinary theater, an indoor and outdoor fitness facility, Ella Mae's Diner and retail space at street level, and a pool area on the fourth floor overlooking the Caloosahatchee River. The hotel will also offer more than 8,000 square feet of function space and will be connected to the neighboring Harborside Event Center. Adjacent to the property is Centennial Park, where a new bandshell will be constructed, along with a new waterfront restaurant and retail outfitter, Oxbow Bar & Grill.
