Next time you're in Collier County, chew on this.
Naples scored a spot on the culinary map recently when readers of Conde Nast Traveler rated the Gulf Coast town among one of America's top food cities.
This kind of publicity is worth gold to tourism promoters, and the Naples visitor's bureau didn't hesitate to trumpet the news.
It has every reason to be proud. Naples was the only Florida city to land on the list of Traveler's Reader's Choice Awards at 17th place out of 20. Other cities included culinary Meccas such as New York City, San Francisco and Charleston, S.C.
The magazine cited Naples' wide array of culinary tastes, from Peruvian food to Spanish tapas and French cuisine. Readers cited seafood as a highlight of most restaurants in Naples.
