SARASOTA -- Caviar produced at Mote Marine Laboratory is now available for purchase at Whole Foods Market stores throughout Florida, according to the Sarasota-based nonprofit.

The caviar will be sold for $55 an ounce under a joint label with Marky's, a gourmet food distributor, Mote says. The product will be available all year at each of Whole Foods' 16 Florida locations. Mote has been producing caviar since 2006.

Mote is also offering a number of one-to-two-hour classes at Whole Foods as part of a Caviar Education Program, starting Nov. 28. The full list of class opportunities and locations is available online.

Founded in 1955, Mote Marine Laboratory is an independent nonprofit marine research organization with field stations in eastern Sarasota County, Charlotte Harbor and the Florida Keys.
