FORT MYERS -- Lee County Community Development (LCCD) issued permits for seven new commercial construction projects in the county's unincorporated areas last month, valued at more than $6.5 million, a release from LCCD says.
Contractors pulled 27 permits for single-family home construction in September, four more than a year ago. And 74 permits were issued for multi-family construction; a year ago, no such permits were issued in September.
In the past year, commercial permitting in particular has shown strong growth in unincorporated parts of Lee County. In the 2010-2011 fiscal year, which ended Sept. 30, LCCD issued $126.5 million in permits for commercial construction, including permits for the Red Sox' new spring training facility, as well as a new mental health hospital for the area. In the previous fiscal year, just $31.4 million in permits were issued.
