Lee County approves $4.5 million in federal housing funds

The vote came after the county's annual action plan was approved by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Lee County officials recently approved more than $4.5 million in U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development grant funds. 

The vote was granted by the Lee County Commission for the 2022-23 budget to be used for planning, homeless services, community development and various housing programs through Lee County‚Äôs Department of Human and Veteran Services, according to a statement. The grants are expected to help 20,000 people, the release adds. 

The county was eligible for the funds because of the annual action plan it submitted to HUD, which includes projects: 

  • Housing Rehabilitation and Reconstruction
  • Community Infrastructure
  • Community Public Services
  • Down Payment Assistance
  • Tenant Based Rental Assistance
  • Non-Profit Capital Improvement
