Airport off to a flying start

January passenger count at Southwest Florida International Airport up 8.7% over January 2018.

FORT MYERS — Passenger traffic at Southwest Florida International Airport began 2019 on record pace as 1,050,093 traveled through the airport, an increase of 8.7% compared to January 2018. 

Delta Air Lines served the most passengers of any carrier at RSW during the month with 190,395 traveling to and from Fort Myers. Delta was followed by Southwest with 180,711 passengers, American with 133,274, Frontier with 126,059 and Spirit with 126,033.  

Aircraft operations also increased in January compared to the previous year, up 1% at 9,338. Page Field, also in Fort Myers, saw 9,320 operations, a 10.5 percent increase over January 2018. In addition, just more than 2.8 million pounds of air freight moved through RSW during the month. 

In 2018, RSW served nearly 9.4 million passengers and ranks as one of the top 50 U.S. airports for passenger traffic.
