ST. PETERSBURG -- Humana Cares, a division of Louisville, Ky.-based Humana Inc. (symbol: HUM), says it will hire another 149 employees for its base of operations in St. Petersburg.

Humana Cares began operating in the Tampa Bay area roughly three years ago, opening its doors with 200 associates on staff. After this latest round of hiring, the Humana division will employ roughly 1,450 workers from the local labor force.

For its newest openings, Humana Cares is looking for care managers, social workers, community health educators, referral specialists and health coaches, a release explains. Of the 149 openings, 84 will be filled by registered nurses with three years of work experience, the firm says.

Health care giant Humana Inc. generated more than $33 billion in revenues in its 2010 fiscal year. The company's stock is up roughly 2% over the past year, just shy of its 52-week high of $96.46, at nearly $90 a share in early Tuesday trading.
