Housing recovery continues

FORT MYERS-NAPLES — The median price of existing homes in Fort Myers and Naples rose in August compared with the same month one year ago, Realtors reported.

The median price of an existing single-family home in the Fort Myers area rose 31% in August to $127,000 compared with August 2011. Meanwhile, over the same period, the number of existing single-family home sales fell nearly 22% to 875, according to the Realtor Association of Greater Fort Myers and the Beach.

In Naples, the median price of an existing single-family home rose 10% to $220,000 in August compared with August 2011. Over the same period, the number of existing single-family home sales rose 2% to 349 homes, according to the Naples Area Board of Realtors.

In both markets, the inventory of existing single-family homes for sale declined compared with the same month a year ago. In the Fort Myers area, there are 4,232 existing single-family homes for sale, a 40% drop. In Naples there are 2,844 homes for sale, a 13% decline.
