TAMPA — Moffitt Cancer Center has acquired a 318,171-square-foot industrial building near the University of South Florida and Florida Hospital Tampa for $11.75 million.

The building was the former home of electronics manufacturer and engineering firm Sypris Electronics. It was owned by Sweetwell Industrial Associates LP Limited. It is on a 21.8-acre site at 10901 North McKinley Dr.

The building is a one-story, light manufacturing facility developed in 1970, according to a statement. It has concrete block exterior walls, a steel frame roof covered with built-up tar and gravel, concrete interior flooring, 22-foot clear heights and air conditioning. The site is in Tampa Industrial Park in the Terrace Park neighborhood.

Moffitt Cancer Center has five existing locations — the original facility on the campus of University of South Florida, Moffitt Cancer Center at International Plaza, Moffitt Cancer Center Prevention Research just north of the new site, Moffitt Business Center near Interstate 75 and Moffitt McKinley Outpatient Center across the street from the new site.

There are no specific plans yet for the newly acquired land. Moffitt Chief Operating Officer Jack Kolosky says in a press release it gives the cancer center flexibility as it looks to its future expansion needs.
