Homebuilder expands to Tampa

TAMPA — Meritage Homes, a Scottsdale, Ariz.-based homebuilder with a division in Orlando, announced plans to expand to Tampa.

The publicly traded firm intends to open four communities in the Tampa-area market by April 1, Meritage Vice President of Sales Brian Kittle said in a release. One location will be The Estuary at Mobbly Bay in Oldsmar, where the firm recently acquired 27 home sites. The firm also recently bought 12 home sites at Crystal Preserve, off Crystal Lake Road in North Tampa; 16 home sites at Bella Casa on Indian Head Drive, also in North Tampa; and 31 home sites at Wellington Manor in Lutz.

Meritage Homes Corp. (symbol: MTH) builds homes in more than 150 communities spread across six states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Nevada and Texas. The firm had $861.2 million in 2011 revenues.
