TAMPA — Hillsborough County commissioners approved a small business reimbursement incentive program that could help add nearly 200 jobs to the area's economy.

The county will reimburse employers for up to 50% of new full-time employees' salaries for three months, with a cap of $3,900 per employee. Only businesses with 10 or fewer employees are eligible for reimbursement on up to three new hires.

Businesses applying for reimbursement must be located in Hillsborough County, and new hires must also be Hillsborough residents. Business owners also must attend four hours of business workshops to become eligible.

The program will begin March 21. On that day, business owners can go to the Hillsborough County Small, Minority Business Development Section's website for more information. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis, until funding is exhausted.
