Hillsborough Community College buys land for future expansion

BUYER: The District Board of Trustees of Hillsborough Community College, Tampa

SELLER: Centex Home Partnership

PROPERTY: a portion of 2699 19th Ave., Ruskin

PRICE: $1.35 million

PREVIOUS PRICE: $10.9 million, May 2005 (larger parcel)

PLANS, DESCRIPTION: Hillsborough Community College purchased 20 acres adjacent to the college's Southshore campus for $1.35 million.

The price equated to $67,500 per acre.

“The campus has been growing exponentially,” says Ashley Carl, executive director of marketing and public relations for Hillsborough Community College. “We plan to hold onto that additional land for the future growth of the campus.”

The existing 51,900-square-foot single-building Ruskin campus occupies a 60-acre site. Enrollment at the Ruskin campus has grown from 2,839 in the 2008-2009 school year to 4,991 for the 2009-2010 period.
