TV morning show viewers nationwide recently had the chance to score deals on products from two popular regional brands.

And the companies behind the brands, Venice-based Tervis and Brandon-based Bourbon and Boweties, scored some major publicity points — and sales.

Tervis and Bourbon and Boweties were featured on ABC's “Good Morning America” May 4 in a segment called “Deals and Steals on Wheels.”

Tory Johnson, who regularly hosts the morning show's “Deals and Steals” segment, traveled to the Don CeSar on St. Pete Beach to film outside the hotel in front of a live audience. It was part of a weeklong tour of American cities highlighting deals on products from local companies in each area. Johnson also shot segments in Dallas, Philadelphia, Chicago and Raleigh, N.C.

Drinkware company Tervis, known for its plastic insulated cups, offered bestselling products in seven designs at a reduced price for “Deals and Steals.” Buyers purchased items through a special website set up for the segment.

Tervis reported 34,415 units sold during the one-day sale period. New customers represented 92% of those orders, say Tervis officials.

Carley Ochs, founder and CEO of jewelry company Bourbon and Boweties, tells Coffee Talk Johnson heard about the company. That led to a call from ABC saying she was going to be in the area and wanted to feature Bourbon and Boweties. “It was like floating on cloud nine,” Ochs says. “It was an honor to be there with other great companies in the area, especially Tervis.”

Ochs says she receives an email alert for every sale the company makes — and her phone was buzzing constantly the day the segment aired. It turned out to be Bourbon and Boweties' best single day for sales since the company started.

“It's kind of like the Oprah effect,” Ochs says. “It's the 'Good Morning America' effect. It was beyond what we ever could have imagined.”
