FORT MYERS — Gartner Inc. (symbol: IT), a Stamford, Conn.-based information technology firm, will receive $4.2 million in tax incentives to hire 400 additional employees in the Fort Myers area, according to the Fort Myers Regional Partnership.

Both Lee County and the state of Florida would be contributing significant amounts of money to attract the expansion. According to today's agreement, Lee could pay out up to $1.4 million from a pair of development funding sources, while the state would contribute $2.8 million.

Gartner currently employs 350 Fort Myers-area workers. The company will soon move its expanded operations in the area to a new, 120,000 square-foot facility, currently being built by McGarvey Development Co.

Gartner generated $1.3 billion in annual revenues in 2010. The company employs 4,400 associates worldwide, and serves clients in 85 countries. Its stock has been trading just under the $38 mark, close to its 52-week high of $38.85.
