company starts new event

Michael Saunders & Co. paid tribute to more than 90 employees, managers and associates at its first iTen-ure Event,i held on Oct. 13.

The event honored those with the company 10 or more years. Susan Fox, of The Colony office, was recognized as the first associate to join Saunders over 28 years ago. Dina Van Dyne, with the accounting division for more than 25 years, was recognized as the employee with the longest tenure.

Others recognized for their dedication to the company include Linda Dickinson, Betty Poma, Roberta Banan, Cathie DeiAth and Gail Wittig. Ann Runyon, sales manager of the Longboat Key office, joined the company in 1983.

The company plans to hold the event each year.

Linda Mahoney, a sales associate with Coldwell Banker Residential Real Estate Inc.is University Parkway office, is marketing the homes she and her husband built in Sarasota and Manatee counties over 10 years ago when they owned Mahoney Custom Homes.

Mahoney built homes in Lakewood Ranch, Calusa Lakes, University Park, Southbay Yacht & Racquet Club and Sorrento Woods.

New restaurant opens north

of Van Wezel Hall

Joe Deleo announced the opening of Villa Francesco Restaurante, a fine-Italian cuisine restaurant at 1603 N. Tamiami Trail. Villa Francesco is in the building that formerly housed Cucco Matto. The restaurant serves lunch Monday through Friday and dinner daily.

Trout firm chosen to design

Orchid Beach Club model

Sally A. Trout Interior Design was selected by U.S. Assets Group to design a model at the Orchid Beach Club, a luxury condominium development on Lido Beach.

Trout, a Florida native and graduate of Ringling School of Art and Design, has designed interiors in Sarasota, Longboat Key and Casey Key as well New Jersey, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Stockholm, Sweden.

She has a design office on Coconut Avenue and a retail showroom at 1272 N. Palm. A recipient of the Aurora Award, she specializes in upscale residential design, offering services from furnishings and architectural details to accessories and art selection.

Country club finalizes

renovations and expansion

The University Park Country Club added 83 new golf carts as the finishing touch to its renovation and expansion project and it completed the final phase of its 27-hole golf course renovation. But the $2 million renovations continue at the Park Grille and CafE.

hires marketing firm

SMITH was recently named the agency of record for John Cannon Homes Inc. The firm will implement marketing for the homebuilder using SMITH BrandImagingo, Internet marketing, public relations and a media plan encompassing outlets from print advertising to sponsorship opportunities.

New building costs get

help from technology

The Suncoast Center for Independent Living is the recipient of a package of credit and debit card processing services as well as an allowance for promotion of its new building and matching grant. The grant will enable SCIL to take advantage of communications technology to receive donations and pledges via credit cards for its new building campaign. MerchantService.com has also pledged a matching contribution of up to $4,000 based on Visa and MasterCard donations.

Economic Development Corp. of

Sarasota looks for exhibitors

Organizers of the Sun Coast Industry Expo, scheduled for Feb. 16, are seeking exhibitors for the event.

More than 85 companies exhibited at the 2003 expo. The Economic Development Corporation of Sarasota County is organizing the event in partnership with the Manatee Economic Development Council and the Sarasota/Manatee Area Manufacturersi Association.

The all-day event, not open to the general public, focuses on connecting manufacturers and suppliers to encourage companies to buy locally. The expo will be held at the Sarasota Bradenton International Convention Center. Cost to exhibitors: $250. Early registration, prior to Jan. 16, $175.

New pest-control company

helps needy with donations

Middleton Lawn & Pest Control, which opened in Sarasota on Oct. 15, used a 20-truck convoy to deliver food to local food banks.

The company delivered $500 worth non-perishable food items to two area food banks: Meals on Wheels Food Bank, Bradenton, and All Faiths Food Bank, Sarasota.

Highwall Technologies, a provider of WLAN monitoring software and hardware, announced the release of its latest solution for monitoring and securing WLAN environments. Highwall Enterprise 3.0 combines the power of high-range sensors and extended functionality of centralized management server software to enable administrators to better enforce WLAN security and performance policies.

Sarasota television station

given award for feature

Access 19, Sarasotais government access television station, took top honors at the Crystal Awards hosted by the Florida Government Communicators Association. Access 19 placed first in the category, iVideo Occasional,i for a news feature about the 50th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education.

The nine-minute segment was shown during Access 19is magazine program, iCity Life.i The piece included an interview with a Sarasota resident who wrote the original brief for U. S. Supreme Court Chief Justice Earl Warren. The winning entry was produced and edited by photojournalist Miles Larson, a four-year veteran of the station.

Sarasota horticultural-products company

receives three awards for hurricane relief

Florikan E.S.A., a Sarasota-based company that provides horticultural products, received three awards for deploying hurricane relief within the industry.

The awards include the 2004 Allied Associate of the Year Award from the American Nursery and Landscape Association, the industries top distinction for an allied supplier; the 2004 National Society of Professional Engineers Most Innovative New Product for the United States o Small Business Category, a recognition for engineering proficiency and achievement; and the 2004 Southern Nurserymen Association Most Outstanding Allied Product.
