Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club nets creative award

The Club Managers Association of America recognized Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club with a Creativity Award for its Cuisine Curbside program. The awards were announced at the CMAA's 78th World Conference in New Orleans.

Lakewood Ranch was the only Florida club to take home a creativity award. Executive Chef Robert Jones earned the first place award in the Successful Food & Beverage Concepts category. Cuisine Curbside is a program that allows club members to call in their lunch or dinner order. The staff prepares the order and delivers it curbside, usually within 20-30 minutes.

Architecture firm opens

The ADP Group, a Sarasota-based architecture and design firm, announces the opening of Abitar Contract Furnishings, a full service procurement company at 149 Cocoanut Ave., Sarasota.

Also, Abitar will move to new offices on June 15 at 1751 Mound Street, Suite 107, Sarasota.

Abitar will offer the following services: furniture, space planning, fabric and finish selections, specifications, project management, accessories, artwork, lighting, carpeting, wall coverings, window treatments, custom millwork, refinishing, upholstery work, inventory of existing products, delivery and installation.

Buchanan Automotive CEO

donates $100,000 to USF

Vernon Buchanan, chairman of the Florida Chamber of Commerce and chairman/CEO of Buchanan Automotive Group, donated $100,000 to the University of South Florida Sarasota-Manatee's Crosley Campus Center Fund-raising Initiative.

The College of Business wing, scheduled to open in the fall of 2006, will be named in honor of Buchanan.

Manatee County

leadership program begins

The Leadership Manatee program, presented by the Chamber of Commerce and Kiwanis Club of Bradenton, is designed to expose a diverse group of current and future local community leaders to all aspects of Manatee County.

Activities include comprehensive lectures, discussions and field trips. The program begins in August each year, concludes with graduation in February and utilizes a competitive selection process. Property tax deadline

fast approaching

April 30 is the deadline to participate in the 2005 installment plan for property taxes.

Taxpayers are allowed by law to pay real estate and personal property taxes on a quarterly installment plan, if the estimated tax is more than $100. To participate in the 2005 installment plan, an application must be filed with the Manatee County Tax Collector's Office prior to May 1.

Willis A. Smith Construction Inc. has been awarded the High Performance Sales Award by Butler Manufacturing. The designation is awarded to Butler Builders® that meet or exceed annual trade area goals as well as demonstrate superior marketing skills in the sale of Butler building and roof systems.

Sarasota County to recognize

contractors for green buildings

Contractors who choose to use "green" building standards will be rewarded under a new incentive program launched by Sarasota County. The Sarasota County Commission passed a resolution March 15 that encourages private constractors use sustainable building practices through financial incentives.

Contractors who build to "green" standards will enjoy fast-track permitting for building permits and a 50% reduction in the cost of building permit fees up to a maximum of $1,000.

Manatee Community College's Phi Beta Lambda business club won second place in overall competition. Members of the MCC Venice Phi Beta Lambda business team won three awards. Winners are: Dawn Smith, first-place, business decision making; Sovanna Sok, third place, public speaking; and Heather MacDonald, third place, business communications.
