selected for leadership classes

Leadership Florida announced the names of 55 people selected to take part in its 23rd annual leadership class program. The eight-month training and development program will be held in six locations throughout Florida. Bradenton's William Simpson of SVP Distribution and Transportation and Darrell Turner of Turner Tree and Landscape were selected.

New database provider allows

homebuilders more options

In January, Customer Loyalty by Design started a turnkey system named New Surroundings LLC. The concept of the database-driven system was to use the Internet as well as homebuilders' Web sites to provide customers the chance to view information about color and design choices, swimming pools options, moving tips and other resources. New Surroundings LLC teamed up with Lee Wetherington Cos.

Women's Leadership Initiative

receives $5,000 donation

Eaton, the corporate sponsor of the Women's Leadership Initiative-United Way of Manatee County, donated $5,000 to the program in September. United Way of Manatee County began a women's philanthropic leadership initiative in November 2003 after surveying area women.

Vengroff, Williams to move

into entertainment sector

Vengroff, Williams Associates Inc. will enter into an agreement to provide receivables solutions to manage the domestic receivables for Microsoft's Xbox Division. The transfer, which took place July 1, is being managed out of VWA's Reno office.

The acquisition of this project will create 27 new positions at the Reno location. The VWA executives selected to manage the facility have experience in managing similar operations in the United States and Europe.

Young Lawyers group

sponsors back-to-school event

The Young Lawyers Division of the Sarasota County Bar Association recently hosted a back-to-school event for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast Inc. at the G-Wiz Hands-On Science Museum.

More than 200 people, including children ages 6 to 18, called LITTLES, who are a part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters program, and their adult mentors, called BIGS, attended the event. In addition to pizza, each child in attendance received a backpack full of school supplies from the Young Lawyers.

Attorneys Anne Weintraub of Gibson & Kohl-Helbig, and Mike Infanti of Norton Hammersley co-chaired the event.

Sarasota group gives donation

to help middle schools students

Sarasota's Young Professionals Group presented a check to Booker Middle School for $6,586. The proceeds came from an August fashion show. The money will be used to help students learn how to tackle real life problems, including personal finance.

Lawn and pest control company

expands into Sarasota-Bradenton

Middleton Lawn and Pest Control is expanding into the Bradenton and Sarasota markets. The company began service in both markets Oct. 15.

Architectural graphics firm

more than doubles growth

In the past year, MediaLab of Tampa, a graphics architectural firm, more than doubled its office space and staff. MediaLab went from 4,500 square feet to just over 10,000 square feet and increased its staff from 32 to 70 people.

Venice company helps

in Sarasota's Reef Program

Coastal Marine Construction Inc., a Venice-based company, donated labor and materials to Sarasota County's Reef Program. The county completed an artificial reef deployment in September at the Silvertooth Reef site about two miles off Lido Key. The deployment was delayed several weeks by recent hurricanes.

Three new Manatee County

building chapters created

The Manatee County Home Building Association established three Future Builders of America chapters in conjunction with Manatee schools. These chapters will be located at Manatee High School - Hurricane Chapter; Palmetto High School - Tiger Chapter; and Southeast High School - Seminole Chapter.

Sarasota game developer

sponsors gaming conference

Sarasota-based Infinium Labs, developer of The Phantom Game services, sponsored the Indie Games Conference, a gathering of independent game developers from around the world.

Infinium Labs chose to sponsor the event based on common goals it shares with presenter GarageGames, an Internet publishing label for independent games.
