TAMPA — Former Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor has been named to the supervisory committee of GTE Financial.

The committee's role is “to ensure that the nonprofit credit union's financial records are in order and that internal controls are in place to protect the assets of the credit union and its members,” according to a statement.

Before retiring in May, Castor served with the police department for 31 years and received local and national recognition for helping to lower the Tampa crime rate. She recently helped select 36 local high school and undergraduate students to receive $2,500 scholarships as part of the GTE Foundation's scholarship judging committee.

GTE Financial, which started in 1935, is a nonprofit credit union with more than $1.7 billion in assets. It has 22 locations throughout Florida.
