SARASOTA — Dawson Hughes has been named CEO of U.S. Masters Swimming, a nonprofit that promotes health, wellness, fitness and competition for adults through swimming.
Hughes joined the Sarasota-based organization from the Orange Bowl Committee, where he was vice president of business development for six years, according to a statement. He started his sports career as an employee of Major League Baseball, directing ticketing efforts for the San Diego Padres and Kansas City Royals.
“Dawson was a clear choice for us with his unique mix of strong sports business and nonprofit organization experience,” Patty Miller, president of U.S. Masters Swimming, says in the statement.
Hughes' tenure as full-time CEO begins March 28, the statement says. He is taking over for Bill Brenner, who has been interim CEO since December 2015. Brenner replaced Rob Butcher, who led a 60% surge in membership at the organization in the last decade, from 40,000 to 64,000 people.
