Bradenton area physician Dr. Daniel Lamar, orthopedic surgeon for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for 10 years, was named lead orthopedic consultant for the Tennessee Titans.

A sports medicine specialist and orthopedic surgeon at Bradenton-based Coastal Orthopedics Sports Medicine & Pain Management, Lamar will attend Titans games and the team's training camp in his new role. He will also attend the NFL's Scouting Combine and the NFL Draft to help review potential players physically, according to a release. Lamar previously worked with Titans' current director of sports medicine, Todd Toriscelli, when Toriscelli was the head athletic trainer and later the director of sports medicine and performance for the Buccaneers.

“Toriscelli is widely considered one of the best trainers in the NFL,” Dr. Lamar said. “As an orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, NFL injury management is the pinnacle of the profession in my opinion, and I really enjoy having the chance to work with people who are at the top of their industry.”

Lamar is also a sports medicine physician for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Baltimore Orioles, U.S. Soccer Team, IMG Academy, Manatee High School and several other local high schools, according to the release. He was a wide receiver and kickoff returner for Manatee High School and Davidson College, and was team captain for both schools.

“Dr. Lamar is at the top of his field,” Toriscelli says in a release. “He's a special, gifted orthopedist. I thought we could really use his expertise. He's going to be a great part of what we do here.”

Coastal Orthopedics Sports Medicine & Pain Management was founded in 1973 and now has 15 orthopedic surgeons and pain management physicians who maintain hospital affiliations with Blake Medical Center, Manatee Memorial Hospital and Lakewood Ranch Medical Center.
