Updated Sept. 22
Allegiant Air announced plans to add three new nonstop destinations from the Charlotte County Airport in Punta Gorda: Greensboro, N.C., Grand Rapids, Mich., and Lexington, Ky.
Currently, the Las Vegas-based discount airline flies twice-weekly nonstop jet service from Punta Gorda to Greenville-Spartanburg, S.C., and Knoxville, Tenn., with more flights planned for the winter holidays.
Twice-weekly flights from Punta Gorda to Greensboro, N.C., will begin Nov. 18 with one-way introductory fares of $39.99. Also starting on Nov. 18, Allegiant will operate twice-a-week service to Grand Rapids for introductory one-way fares of $79.99, along with twice-a-week service to Lexington for introductory fares of $49.99.
The airline's expansion takes advantage of the low-cost model used by the Charlotte County Airport to attract business. That model was detailed in a July issue of the Business Review after the Punta Gorda airport saw 90% growth in peak passenger travel over the year.
