Florida Realtors, the real estate lobbying group that boasts more than 140,000 members statewide, has named Bill Martin its new CEO beginning March 23.
Martin, currently in a similar position with Michigan Realtors, will replace John Fridlington, who led the Florida Realtors since 2005.
“His knowledge, skills and expertise will be invaluable to Florida Realtors and our members across the state,” said organization President Andrew Barbar in a release.
Martin has run the Michigan organization for 14 years, and is a former lawmaker in that state's house of representatives, serving for four terms. He would later become the state lottery commissioner before taking over Michigan's department of corrections, managing 19,000 employees and a $1.7 billion budget.
Martin joined Michigan Realtors with no tangible real estate experience himself, outside of crediting real estate practitioners with giving him his first endorsements as a politician.
He will relocate to Orlando with his wife of 36 years, Denise.
