Fire up the smoker

The Phelan family is known for their successful chain of 11 Pincher's seafood restaurants stretching from Tampa to Naples.

But father-son team Tony and Grant Phelan have recently been doing something different, refining their barbecue concept at a restaurant in Naples called Texas Tony's Barbecue Shack.

Now they're ready to break out of the shack.

The second Texas Tony's will open on Bonita Beach Road near U.S. 41 and the entrance to Spanish Wells Golf and Country Club. “We're going to build it from the ground up,” says Grant Phelan, who projects the restaurant will open in September.

It will have 250 seats and feature a brewery pub for in-house made beers.

To help them grow Texas Tony's, the Phelans recently hired Dave Reid as vice president of operations. Reid's resume includes helping Miller's Ale House grow from three restaurants to 71 locations. “He's a big asset for us,” says Phelan.
