Engineering & Manufacturing Services Inc., a Tampa-based provider of three-dimensional scanning and prototyping products, was selected as the overall winner of the third-annual CoolTech showcase June 4 at the Museum of Science and Industry.

One of 46 exhibitors this year, EMS received the Judges' Award, while Sarasota-based Robrady Design was named runner-up and video game producer Trendy Entertainment of Gainesville was given honorable mention. Rod Thomson, executive editor of Gulf Coast Business Review, was among this year's judges.

CoolTech attendees also got in on voting by submitting text messages for their favorites. National Forensic Science Technology Center won first place, GCA Technology Services was runner-up and Send Savings got honorable mention.

This year's keynote speaker was Frank Farro, co-founder of the new technology and research-and-development team for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Worldwide. Farro outlined the many failures that accompany ideas that work. His key piece of advice to innovators is “fail fast and cheap, and move on to the next thing.”
