TAMPA — Former Hillsborough County Commissioner and Tampa Councilman Kevin White was sentenced Monday to three years in prison.
White, 47, was convicted of public corruption in November, including conspiracy, bribery, wire fraud and lying to the FBI.
His sentencing Monday by District Judge James D. Whittemore included an additional three years of supervision and 300 hours of community service after he is released from prison. Further, Whittemore ordered White to pay a $7,500 fine and a $700 special assessment.
According to court documents, White, while a Hillsborough County Commissioner and chairman of the Hillsborough Public Transportation Commission, accepted bribe money in exchange for helping towing companies be selected for the county's approved towing list. A jury convicted him on the charges.
White and co-defendant George Hondrellis, 46, were indicted in June. Hondrellis, owner of a towing company, has been remanded for a competency evaluation and will be tried later.
