Walter Industries acquires Hunt Industries

Tampa-based Walter Industries Inc. announced that Mueller Water Products, a wholly owned subsidiary, acquired the stock of Hunt Industries Inc. for $6.8 million. Hunt Industries, based in Murfreesboro, Tenn., is a privately held manufacturer of water meter pits and water meter yokes sold by Mueller.

Mueller's net sales attributable to the Hunt Industries product line were approximately $20 million for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 2005. Walter Industries Inc. has annual revenues of $2.7 billion. The company provides water infrastructure, flow control and water transmission products, with brand names such as Mueller, U.S. Pipe, James Jones, Hersey Meters, Henry Pratt and Anvil.

Grapevine offering pro-bono services to local non-profits

Sarasota-based Grapevine Communications selected three organizations for charitable pro-bono services in 2006, and two openings for other organizations remain. The company has already selected the Wellness Community, G-WIZ science museum, and the Y Foundation of Sarasota.

The agency annually selects five charitable nonprofits and dedicates the entire year to providing services, whether it is designing Web sites, advertisements, charity event invitations, program books, logos or brochures that the organizations otherwise would not be able to afford.

PGT Industries

appoints new CFO

PGT Industries, manufacturers of custom windows and doors, appointed Jeff Jackson, as the company's new chief financial officer. Jackson brings more than 16 years of comprehensive financial expertise from his employment at Fortune 500 corporations and public accounting firm, KPMG.

Jackson was most recently vice president, corporate controller at The Hershey Co., where he was responsible for global accounting and control processes, financial reporting and corporate governance.

Lee Memorial Health System Board of Directors and elected 2006 officers include: Chairman: Linda Brown, ARNP, District 3; Vice Chairman: the Rev. James English, District 2; Treasurer: Marilyn Stout, District 1; Secretary: Lois Barrett, MBA, District 3.

Chico's FAS Inc. reports

record December sales

Fort Myers-based Chico's FAS Inc. reported December sales results for the five-week period ended Dec. 31, 2005, increased 34.3% to $172.6 million from $128.5 million reported for the prior year's five-week period ended Jan. 1, 2005.

Comparable store sales for the company-owned stores increased 16.4% for the five-week period ended Dec. 31, 2005, compared to the same five-week period last year.

Tampa Bay RHIO project

awards $467,000 grant

The Tampa Bay Partnership Regional Research and Education Foundation received a $467,000 implementation grant from the Florida Health Information Network to encourage the adoption and use of electronic health records in Florida. The Tampa Bay RHIO pilot was chosen because of the strong support from local businesses and health care providers. The Pinellas County Health Department also was awarded a planning grant for $110,985.

Medical manufacturer

expands to meet demand

Micron PharmaWorks recently purchased a 19,700-square-foot facility in the West Pasco Industrial Park in Odessa to accommodate growing domestic demand for its product and allow for expansion from 26 employees to 40. Micron PharmaWorks designs, engineers and manufactures blister-packaging machinery for the pharmaceutical industry.

Bayshore Solutions

announces new office

Bayshore Solutions opened a new office in Fort Lauderdale. The new location is the company's third, with the other two offices located in Atlanta and Tampa. Bayshore Solutions offers a comprehensive range of E-commerce solutions, including Web site development, electronic marketing, custom software development and web hosting services.

to begin at Esperia North

The Lutgert Companies and The Bonita Bay Group announced plans for Esperia North, the sixth of eight high-rises planned along Estero Bay in Bonita Bay.

The 120 homes in the 27-story high-rise are priced from $1.1 million.

North American donates to Red Cross

North American Properties donated $100,000 to the American Red Cross for the construction of the new Mid-County Service Center in Lakewood Ranch. This donation was one of the largest to date for The Campaign for the Future. The donation advances the American Red Cross capital campaign to the $1.1 million point with $650,000 to go.

North American Properties, based in Cincinnati with its Florida office in Fort Myers, primarily develops and manages neighborhood centers anchored by Publix Super Markets and other leading retailers.  Some of the more familiar centers in the area completed by North American Properties are the two Publix shopping centers located in Lakewood Ranch, and the University Walk center at University Parkway and Tuttle.
