NAPLES — Collier County collected $734,419 in bed taxes in October from tourists staying in area lodgings, a 6.2% increase over the same month in 2011 and a record amount for October.
“This is the tenth month in a row that we have seen more visitors and more spending, indicating a growing confidence in the economy,” says Jack Wert, executive director for the Naples, Marco Island, Everglades Convention and Visitors Bureau, in a statement.
The bureau says market tracker Research Data Services estimated that visitors spent $62 million in Collier County in October, a 10.2% increase over October 2011. Tourists pay a 4% bed tax on lodging in Collier County, which funds the bureau's activities.
The research firm also reported that revenues per available room at Collier lodgings in October rose 7.2% to $75.60 compared with the same month one year ago. This is an important gauge of the hospitality industry and is a factor of average daily occupancy and rate.
