FORT MYERS — A major renovation of the Florida Gulf Coast University Alico Arena has been completed.

The upgrades included a new 11,000-square-foot expansion and 13,000-square-foot renovation, according to a press release. The upgrades, completed by Fort Myers-based Wright Construction Group, will bring the 15-year-old facility to the level of other Division One programs, the release adds.

The focus of the new construction included a new academic center and expanded sports medicine area on the first floor of the existing arena. The academic center provides individual tutoring rooms; offices for academic staff; banks of seats for computer stations; and an open central study area, according to the statement. The study area also has an elevated ceiling and curved window wall. The sports medicine area is now five times bigger, with two in-ground hydrotherapy tubs, exam and treatment rooms, office and meeting spaces.

“We are always excited to help the FGCU Athletics Program be a success, and this project makes huge leaps in providing FGCU athletes and coaches with a premiere athletic facility,” Wright Construction Group President Fred Edman says in the release.
