CAPE CORAL — Construction is underway on a pair of new parks in Cape Coral, a combined $5 million in projects.
Located four minutes from each other, the parks, Sands Park and Joe Coviello Park, formerly Oasis Woods Park, are projected to finish construction late 2022, according to a statement. The lead builder, Fort Myers-based Wright Construction, broke ground on the projects in late October. Joe Coviello Park is named for Cape Coral Mayor Joe Coviello, who died in January.
Once completed, the parks will include new asphalt and concrete parking lots as well as walking paths to provide easy accessibility for cars and park goers, the release states. Sands Park will feature several recreational facilities including baseball fields, basketball courts, tennis and pickleball courts, soccer fields and cornhole. Additionally, the park will house a butterfly plant garden, playground, and picnic pavilion, the release adds.
Joe Coviello Park, meanwhile, is intended to encourage Cape Coral residents to explore and learn about nature, the release states. It will feature outdoor classrooms, located along the walking paths throughout the entire property, intended to inform residents about plants and wildlife native to Florida.
