FORT MYERS -- Chico's FAS Inc. (symbol: CHS) will receive $3.26 million in financial incentives from local and state government organizations to support the expansion of its corporate headquarters in Fort Myers.
Chico's expansion will include the creation of 150 new net jobs, with the average new hire earning $75,333 in salary, Lee County officials say.
Chico's Chief Operating Officer Kent Kleeberger says the company could invest up to $25 million over the next 18 months in expanding its headquarters, plus up to $10 million more by the end of its 2014 fiscal year.
The women's apparel retailer will receive funding from four publicly run sources: $1.05 million from a Qualified Target Industry (QTI) Tax Refund and the Lee County Job Opportunity Program; $2 million from the state's Quick Action Closing Fund, including match from Lee County; and $210,000 from Florida's Quick Response Training (QRT) program.
Chico's has been operating in Fort Myers since 1983, when it first opened as a boutique selling Mexican folk art and cotton sweaters. The company now employs 1,250 workers from the Fort Myers labor force at its corporate headquarters, located at 11215 Metro Parkway.
