Bradenton-based athletic training institution IMG Academy recently broke ground on a new luxury hotel.

The 150-room, roughly 100,000-square-foot Legacy Hotel at IMG Academy will be on the northern edge of the IMG campus. Tandem Construction is the general contractor, and it's expected to open in fall 2018.

IMG Academy Co-Managing Director Chip McCarthy tells Coffee Talk the hotel will provide on-site accommodations for events, team training and professional training, including dining facilities for groups staying there. Parents will be able to stay at the hotel when dropping students off, visiting during parents' weekend and attending games, he says. “It's a great option because you can literally walk to the athletic facilities from the hotel,” McCarthy adds.

Legacy Hotel will give visitors an additional choice besides staying at an off-campus hotel or one of IMG's other accommodations — the Academy Park Villas, the Lodge at IMG Academy and the Bollettieri Resort Villas. McCarthy says it's important to give guests options. “We'll have a variety of different levels of accommodations.”

The hotel will also include meeting space for seminars, training and other events, as well as an outdoor swimming pool and outdoor event space.

Room prices will vary depending on factors such as the season and whether a tournament is being played at IMG. McCarthy says prices will be competitive with the area. “It really enhances the experience for all the guests and visitors,” he says. “It's a higher level of accommodation, a luxury level, and it creates a very nice option for all visitors.”
