Millions of federal stimulus dollars are headed to Tampa Bay, as part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' naming 28 organizations nationally that will receive a $267 million investment.
Along the Gulf Coast, Community Health Care Alliance, Inc., of St. Petersburg and the University of South Florida in Tampa will receive $11 million and $5.9 million respectively.
The award is intended to help establish what the feds are calling Health Information Technology Regional Extension Centers. These centers will aim to help health care organizations improve their use of electronic health records.
The federal government will eventually disburse a total of $2 billion for the effort, as allowed for in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
