Sarasota-based atLarge, Inc. recently become the first local business in the region to win an American Business Award, also known as a Stevie Award. The web marketing and digital advertising firm beat out companies including John Hancock Funds in winning the 2009 award for Best Software Programming and Design.
The 15 employee-company won the award for its work with IMG Academies, where it redesigned the company's Web site, blog and advertising strategy. The company was also recognized as a runner-up in another category, for its work on the Sarasota Film Festival Web site.
The company, founded by local entrepreneur Anand Pallegar, has grown into a major player in the local Web advertising and design industry. Clients include the Observer Group, parent of the Review.
The awards ceremony was held in New York City June 22. And the company's core of employees didn't hold back on celebrating after they won, according to Amanda Eyers, who runs marketing and public relations campaigns for atLarge. Joked Eyers: “There was a lot of dancing and shenanigans.”
Some people have described the Stevies as the Oscar of the business world. The honor's namesake is derived from Stephen, which in Greek, means 'crowned'.
