VENICE — B & I Contractors, a Fort Myers-based subcontracting and building services firm, has been awarded the HVAC and plumbing contracts for the new Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Venice.

Terms of the contract weren’t disclosed.

The new 90-bed hospital is approximately 360,000-square-feet, according to a statement, and will feature an emergency department, operating rooms, oncology department and labor & delivery. The project also includes a new Central Energy Plant, which houses three 1,200-ton centrifugal chillers, one 120-ton heat recovery chiller, four 4,000 MBH boilers and three 1,200-ton cooling towers. The project is a design-assist effort with Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Gilbane Building Co. and Affiliated Engineers, the release adds.

“We are fortunate to have been awarded these contracts, as this affords us the opportunity to provide a much needed facility for the hospital and the surrounding communities,” Jason Grabowski, B & I Contractors Executive Vice President, says in the statement.

Established in 1960, B & I has offices located in Fort Myers, Tamarac, Sarasota and Tampa. The employee-owned company specializes in providing HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration and building maintenance services for commercial, institutional and industrial facilities. It did $123.99 million in revenue in 2018 and has around 670 employees.
